THE ADVENTURE DIDN’T HAPPEN AS PLANNED

THE
ADVENTURE DIDN’T HAPPEN AS PLANNED
March
through July 2019
About
the adventure I mentioned earlier; we were planning to walk all the way across
the United States. We were only going to cover about four states in 2019, then
do some more states in 2020 and 2021 and then eventually finish the whole
United States. But a few things happened. One big thing that happened is that
da daddy now tells everyone that he makes plans in pencil. That way when things
change, he just erases and writes something different. That seems to be working
pretty well for us.
Another
thing that happened is da daddy started having trouble walking. He fell a few
times and seemed like he hurt a lot in his back. Then he rode in a chair with
wheels. He went to see a bunch of different doctors and one of them finally
said he had “spinal stenosis.” Then he went to see these people called
“physical therapists” and I’m pretty sure they were magic, because after about
three months da daddy could walk again pretty well. He has exercises he is
supposed to do, and da mommy keeps reminding him. He just says, “I know.” That’s
because he’s really smart, even smarter than me, I think. He knows a lot of
things.
Something
else happened while we were supporting Mommy on the Florida Trail in March and
da daddy was not able to walk. We got a call from a friend in Hot Springs,
North Carolina who said she needed help right away. She works at Laughing Heart Hostel on
the Appalachian Trail, and she needed someone to manage it. It was getting very
busy. So da daddy and da mommy said “okay,” and we headed to Hot Springs to
manage the hostel for a few months. They thought it would be good because they
could make a little money and da daddy could see those magic doctors and get
better. It all worked out well. We were there from the middle of March till
August 1.

We
decided that the walk across the United States would wait for another time when
Daddy is able to walk better and the three of us can do it together. Or, there
has been talk about riding bicycles instead and “pulling Chigger in a trailer.”
Huh? I get a little uneasy when I hear that. But as long as I’m with them I’m
sure it will be fine.
